Trash Bins Service and Schedule
Trash is picked up at all four buildings by Waste Management (WM), which took over from Athens in November 2017. While a private company, WM is contracted by the City of Los Angeles to pick up our trash and recycling, so we do not have the option to select another company.
As of November 5, 2020, WM will pick up both trash and recycling on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. This usually occurs in the morning.
The following holidays may impact pickups by WM: New Year's Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Pickups may be delayed one day during the week of the holiday, or a pickup may be skipped, even if the holiday doesn't fall on one of our pickup days.
In all cases, if a bin is overflowing, this does not give anyone license to place trash or recycling alongside the bins! Rules still apply, and fines will be assessed. Either find another bin, or take your bags or items back inside your unit until after the bins have been emptied. If the bins are chronically overfilled, the Association will address the problem.
If you have questions about trash pickup, or to report an apparent missed pickup or other problems, contact the Association's Managing Agent.
Recycling
As of October 2018, residents are responsible for separating recyclables (paper and cardboard, plastics, household metals, and glass). Recyclables must be clean, and will go in blue bins, with residental trash in black bins. Please see this link from the Los Angeles Sanitation Dept. for more information:

Construction Waste
Trash and recycling bins are for ordinary residential waste only. If you're remodeling your unit, your contractor is required to arrange for hauling and disposal of construction debris. It is not to be placed in the bins.
Electronic Waste
Electronic equipment is not to be placed in the trash or recycling bins. WM and the City do not pick up electronic waste from residential locations, unfortunately. To find out where you may drop off your electronic waste for proper disposal, please visit this site:

Christmas Trees
Christmas trees are not to be placed next to the trash bins or in the driveways. Call the City (at 311) to schedule a pickup, then place them all the way out on the curb no earlier than the night before pickup day. The link below provides more information. Although the page from the City shows that trees will be picked up without prior notice on any regular trash pickup day, this may not be the case, so you should always call to schedule the pickups, as we should not have trees lying on the curb longer than necessary.

Bulky Items
As you know, all garbage must be placed in the bin and it must fit entirely within the bin. No owner, resident, or guest may place any garbage or other refuse alongside a bin, or anywhere else on the property, except as described below.
If you have something that is too large to dispose of in the trash bin, such as furniture or large appliances, follow these procedures:
- Call the City of Los Angeles Sanitation Department directly at (800) 773-2489. Their office is, surprisingly, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The phone representative will schedule a day for pickup (usually starting at 6 a.m.).
- The night before the pickup (no more than 12 hours before), place your bulky items on the curb in front of your building. Do not leave anything in the driveways. Place it on the ground in a stable manner so as to avoid tipping, with sharp edges or corners taped. Refrigerators or ovens must have doors removed or be taped or locked shut securely. Anything else that might present a hazard to safety or sanitation must be mitigated.
- Put a label on your items indicating that it will be picked up by the City of Los Angeles, and note the date and time of the scheduled pickup.
Again, do not, under any circumstances, place bulky items near the garage gates, next to the bins, or anywhere else, except on the curb and exactly as described above.
Failure to follow these guidelines will result in fines assessed on the owner of the responsible unit. In addition, the Association may haul away any bulky items disposed of improperly, and will bill the responsible owner for the costs incurred, in addition to fines.
